Dallas (AP) – American professional footballer Reggie Cannon has been threatened with death after criticizing fans of his club FC Dallas. In addition, the 22-year-old was racially insulted on social media.
“We want to be clear: we love and support Reggie Cannon. The racist comments and death threats he has received are revolting and unacceptable,” team owners Clark and Dan Hunt said in a statement.
Before the home game (0: 1) against SC Nashville, both teams of the North American professional football league MLS and the referees knelt while playing the national anthem to demonstrate against racism with this gesture. Not all fans in Dallas thought it was good, some were booed. “How embarrassing is that? I think it’s absolutely disgusting,” Cannon said after the game.
There were threats against him then. “Hateful or violent threats are never justified, especially when directed against a member of our FC Dallas family,” the statement said.
