Grove (AP) – Frank Williams, former Formula 1 team principal, is in hospital. As his family announced in a letter, the 78-year-old’s current situation is stable.
As this is a private matter, the family will not provide further details at this time. Frank Williams was reportedly hospitalized “recently”. The team will keep you informed in due course.
The Briton has been in a wheelchair since a car accident in 1986. Williams founded the racing team in 1977 with Patrick Head. The Williams team won the constructors’ title a total of nine times. The last drivers’ championship was won in 1997 by Canadian Jacques Villeneuve.
Frank Williams, who was in poor health, stepped down from the board in 2012, paving the way for his daughter Claire. In 2013 she was promoted to co-team leader. After the Williams racing team was sold to an American investment company, Claire Williams resigned in early September this year after the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. This ended an era for the private team.
