Spa-Francorchamps (dpa) – Max Verstappen set the best moment of the day in training for the Belgian Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old Dutchman, born in Hasselt, Belgium, relegated Daniel Ricciardo with 48 thousandths of a second to second place in the fastest of the two and a half hours of training on Friday afternoon.
Third was Formula 1 leader Lewis Hamilton. The winner of four of the six races of the season so far missed 98 thousandths of a second over Verstappen, who is second in the standings, 37 points behind Hamilton.
Sebastian Vettel experienced a prelude to oblivion. 48 hours before the race on Sunday (3.10 p.m. / Sky and RTL), the four-time world champion only finished 17th. Vettel had to struggle with the Ferrari again and again and offered a few brakes. He was almost two seconds behind Verstappen.
