Imola (AP) – Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff does not expect Lewis Hamilton to end his career at the end of the Formula 1 season.

“As long as there is no signature, nothing is safe in life, but I am optimistic that he will continue because together we can move the needle even further,” said Wolff of “Sport Bild”. “I don’t think it will, but if it did, there would be some excitement in the driver market.”

Hamilton, who can perfect his seventh world title in the upcoming race in Turkey, had recently kept his future open. “I would like to be here next year, but it is not guaranteed,” said the 35-year-old Briton after his victory over Imola earlier this month. Hamilton’s contract with the works team expires at the end of the year. “There is a lot that makes me excited about life afterwards. Time will tell,” said the World Cup leader.
