Dortmund (dpa) – Christian Streich has even beat the great FC Bayern Munich as a coach. But he has to wait for success above Borussia Dortmund. Since he took up the position of head coach at SC Freiburg in January 2012, the misery has continued.
In the sobering 0: 4 on Saturday in the Revierstadt, the 55-year-old could hope for the first half hour when his team deftly resisted the high favorite. But with Norwegian national player Erling Haaland’s goal in the 31st minute to make it 1-0, the story that has since become known for Streich began. “It was getting restless in the stadium,” commented the football player, “but this goal upset us.”
Even his desperate attempt to avert the new calamity when the score was 0: 2 and replace all three offensive players Lucas Höler, Nils Petersen and Roland Sallai at the same time in the 55th minute, went without the hoped-for effect. So it came as it was supposed to come. Streich suffered his 100th defeat in his 292nd game – against the dreaded opponent of all places. “We just weren’t good enough to get anything here today,” he admitted.
