Florian Grillitsch criticized referee Robert Hartmann after Hoffenheim’s 3-1 defeat to Union Berlin. “It was a good Monday game today, there were opportunities on both sides, only the only one who did not have a Bundesliga level was the referee,” the Austrian said after the game at DAZN. Especially the penalty decision in the 58th minute and the accompanying red card for Robert Skov criticized the attacking player.
“He has 85 kilos and there is a touch on the shoulder and he flies. Okay, you can give penalties, but if that’s a red card, then there are only red cards,” Grillitsch criticized. Max Kruse turned the penalty kick around for Union Berlin. Until then it was still 0-0.
Still, Florian Grillitsch does not want to use the referee’s decision as an excuse for the defeat: “We had a good mentality and came to the 1-1 equalizer. We should have scored our goals,” said the defensive midfielder.
Grillitsch did not blame his team, but he denied the referee Hartmann any competence: “Be it professional or communicative, that’s bottomless for me.”
