Kiel (AP) – Captain Domagoj Duvnjak saw red, top star Sander Sagosen was injured:
For handball record champion THW Kiel, not everything went according to plan in the appropriate 36:30 (20:15) home win against HC Erlangen at the start of the Bundesliga season. “We need to see what happens to Sander. He gets medical treatment,” THW trainer Filip Jicha said right after the final whistle on Sky TV. “If he failed, it would be painful.”
Sagosen, who came over from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, had to go to the cabin early in the second half with a suspected adductor. The Norwegian, who scored five goals before being eliminated, should at least not be available for THW in Tuesday’s next game against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf.
Kiel lost captain Duvnjak in the first half. The Croat saw the red card in the 23rd minute, but may play against Hanover again. The best pitcher for the defending champion was Niclas Ekberg with 13 goals.
