Düsseldorf (dpa) – Frank Bohmann was relieved at the smooth progress of the handball Supercup in Düsseldorf.
“All requirements were met. No spectator and no player had to take a health risk,” said the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) director after THW Kiel’s 28:24 victory over SG Flensburg-Handewitt on Saturday night. “We are therefore very satisfied with the event.”
2,100 spectators watched the race in the ISS Dome – 540 less than approved by the responsible health department. “Since we only had two days to sell tickets, this number is very good. We are satisfied with it,” Bohmann emphasizes. For the future, the entire industry wants “more viewers of course”. Bohmann therefore hopes “that we can successfully complete the pilot phase by the end of October and then increase the number of spectators at all Bundesliga locations”.
At the same time, the 55-year-old yearns for an early return to normalcy. “There are circumstances that we would wish differently and that are partly a burden on the fans,” Bohmann said of the strict hygiene rules. “But given the circumstances, unfortunately we have no other option and we will see it in all Bundesliga halls in the coming weeks.”
