Hamburg (AP) – Second division football team Hamburger SV is once again the leader in the 2nd Bundesliga and has set a club record.
In the catch-up game, the Hamburg team defeated pursuers Erzgebirge Aue 3-0 (1-0). The goals were scored by Manuel Wintzheimer (17th minute), Sonny Kittel (52nd) and Khaled Narey (72nd). For the first time since the founding of the Bundesliga, HSV started a season with four wins. “I am very happy that we won four,” HSV trainer Daniel Thioune said on Sky TV channel. His counterpart Dirk Schuster, on the other hand, argued with his team: “The nature of the defeat is disappointing.”
After injuries and the renewed suspension for captain Toni Leistner, the hosts had to rebuild their team. For the first time this season, the fast attacker Bakery Jatta was allowed to strengthen the base team. Thioune confused the guests with unusual formation and position changes during the game. Especially on the outdoor courts, the Hamburg team had clear advantages in terms of speed with Narey and Jatta. Both triggered dangerous actions several times.
In the top game, second to third, only the North Germans kept what their table position promised. The Saxons had no chance in the offensive. Only with a long shot by midfielder Philipp Riese (9th) did the team of trainer Dirk Schuster create danger. Ex-Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich was at his home premiere in front of 1000 spectators in the Volksparkstadion. “Unfortunately we didn’t succeed very well. Go home quickly and regenerate,” said Riese.
The Hamburg team got another huge opportunity through Narey, but the 26-year-old was unable to beat Martin Männel in Auer Tor (42nd). Whether tackling, passing or possession – the hosts have clearly set the tone and rightly won at the top.
