Frankfurt / Main (AP) – Eintracht Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter sees Kevin Trapp as number 1 on the national football team for the two upcoming Nations League games.
“I assume Kevin will get in the goal,” the 50-year-old Austrian said at a Bundesliga club press conference.
“He deserves it, he’s a great goalkeeper. I am very happy that he is now in the goal of the German national team,” said Hütter in response to the Trapps nomination. After relinquishing FC Bayern Munich’s three-time winner and captain Manuel Neuer and the failure of Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona / knee injury), national team coach Joachim Löw with FC Arsenal’s Bernd Leno and first-time nominee Oliver Baumann of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim still has two goalkeepers in the line-up.
Trapp has played three international matches so far and was number three at Löw at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The DFB selection will play their international match in the Nations League on September 3 in Stuttgart against Spain and three days later in Basel against Switzerland.
