French Interior Minister Gerald Dermian has said that fighting against Islamic ideology could lead to more attacks on French soil. He told RTL radio on Friday. A report by the British news agency Reuters revealed the case.
Notre Dame Basilia in Nice city was attacked by a man with a knife on Thursday morning. Three people, including a woman, were killed. The mayor of Nice called it a terrorist attack. Authorities have started investigating the incident. The French president said that the highest security alert was issued in the country.
“We are at war with an enemy inside and outside the country,” he said.
Gerald Dermian said that we need to understand the horrific attacks which have happened before and will continue to happen.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said that if we were attacked again, it would be an attack on the values of our freedom, an attack on our freedom movement. These values will not stand in opposition to any terrorism.
“I want to make it clear again that we will not surrender our values,” he said.
A teacher was recently murdered in France to show a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) during a class on freedom of expression. The incident caused anger throughout France. The French president took a tough stance in favor of maintaining the country’s secular values contrary to “radical Islam”. “France won’t stop showing cartoons,” he said.
