Berlin (AP) – Football World Champion France celebrated a runaway win against Ukraine, Germany’s next Nations League opponent. The hero of the evening in the friendly match at the Stade de France in Paris was Olivier Giroud.
The world champion not only played his 100th international match for the French at 7-1 (4-0) – he crowned the anniversary with two goals (24./34.). Eduardo Camavinga had brought the Equipe Tricolore to the lead (9th), Bayern professional Corentin Tolisso (65th), Kylian Mbappé (82nd) and Antoine Griezmann (89th) took care of the other hits. Vitali Mykolenko scored an own goal (39th). Only Viktor Tsygankow scored for the Eastern Europeans (53rd). Ukraine will play against Germany in Kiev on Saturday.
Switzerland, German opponents next Tuesday and Spain, meanwhile, remained without a win. The Swiss got a 1: 2 (1: 1) home defeat against Croatia in St. Gallen, and ex-world champion Spain did not get past a 0-0 draw at European champions Portugal in Lisbon.
Mario Gavranovic gave Switzerland the lead (31st), but Wolfsburg Josip Brekalo equalized for the vice world champion (42nd) before half time, Mario Pasalic made the victory perfect (66th).
With nine Bundesliga professionals in the base, the Austrians and their selection coach Franco Foda beat former European champions Greece 2: 1 (0: 0) after trailing 0-1. Adrian Grbic (77th) and substitute Christoph Baumgartner (80th) from Hoffenheim met in Klagenfurt. Konstantinos Fortounis had put the guests ahead (63rd).
Italy gave the overwhelmed outsider Moldova no chance of 6-0 (5-0) in Florence. The premiere of the new Dutch national coach Frank de Boer, on the other hand, went wrong: The Oranjes lost in Amsterdam with 0: 1 (0: 0) against Mexico (Raul Jimenez / 60.).
With a hat trick (9th, 18th and 38th minute) Kamil Grosicki made everything clear in Poland’s 5-1 (3-0) against Finland. Even without Europe’s Footballer of the Year, Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, the hosts in Gdansk made an impression.
