The second test with the pro from TVB Stuttgart was positive after the international match against Estonia. Bitter is quarantined at home and comments on the test result.
The national handball player who tested positive for the corona virus is goalkeeper Johannes Bitter. Some 48 hours after the European Championship qualifying match against Estonia in Tallinn, a second test was positive for the 38-year-old, his club TVB Stuttgart and the German Handball Federation (DHB) announced on Tuesday evening.
Bitter is symptom-free and has been in domestic isolation since Monday, so the Stuttgarters will at least miss him in the next two Bundesliga games at HC Erlangen on Wednesday and against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf on Saturday.
Bitter: “Inexplicable what infection is”
“I can’t explain what caused the infection,” said Bitter. “We national players felt very safe during the course. The processes were very good and professional.”
For this reason, the Bundesliga handball will postpone the game scheduled for next Thursday between TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and Frisch Auf Göppingen, HBL boss Frank Bohmann confirmed to the German news agency. According to information from dpa, two national players from Göppingen returned together with Bitter in the car from Estonia to Baden-Württemberg. At first it was not clear whether more parts would be moved.
