National player Joshua Kimmich will at least be absent from Bayern Munich until the end of the year after suffering a knee injury in the best Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund. The 25-year-old midfielder underwent surgery on the lateral meniscus of his right knee on Sunday evening.
The medical department of the German record champion expects the flexible Kimmich to be available again in January, the club announced.

Bayern was relieved that Kimmich’s injury was not as serious as feared. “We are pleased that Joshua will likely be available to us again in a few weeks,” sports director Hasan Salihamidzic said in the statement.
“We will give him the best possible support during his rehabilitation.” Kimmich injured himself on Saturday evening in a duel with BVB professional Erling Haaland in Dortmund in the 36th minute in the 3-2 draw in Munich.
