Armenian-controlled Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Minister Jalal Harutian is wounded in a conflict with Azerbaijan. The local government of Karabakh region has admitted that their defense minister was injured. This is according to a report published on Armenia’s website of public radio.
Azerbaijan and Armenia recently gained control of the Nagorno-Karbakh region. As a result, many people have died. The two countries have agreed to a ceasefire three times before, but it broke up in no time.
Arik Harutunian, head of local government in Nagorno-Karabakh, said that Jalal Harutian was relieved of his duties in a decree after he was injured. In a separate decree, Mikel Harutunan is named the new Minister of Defense.
The Nagorno-Karbakh region is internationally recognized as the territory of Azerbaijan. But Armenia established control there in the 1990s. It is alleged that many sick civilians were evacuated from the occupied territories.
