Great success for the German ski jumpers at the world championships in Planica. After the first laps, Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler were way ahead. In the end they both won a medal.
They already showed on Friday German ski jumper at the World Ski Flying Championships in Planica in Slovenia top performances. Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler achieved dream jumps so that they were in first and third place after the first two rounds.
The German Pius Paschke already showed a solid performance in the top twenty on Saturday in the third round. Markus Eisenbichler also showed a successful jump, but teammate Karl Geiger continued to secure the lead with a very good performance. After the third round, the placement was as before: Karl Geiger ahead of Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud and Markus Eisenbichler.
Geiger takes the title with a lead of half a point
However, until then, Eisenbichler had a close duel with Austrian Michael Hayböck, who landed just one point behind him. In the fourth and final lap Hayböck was strong again, but at 220 meters it was not a top distance like his jumps before. Good for Eisenbichler, who jumped it with 230 meters and just stepped out of his joy and thus secured third place.
Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud set a top performance with 243 meters, Karl Geiger flew 231.5 meters and thus narrowly secured the title.
