Formula 1 factory team Renault will start from next season under the name Alpine. The French announced this on Sunday on the sidelines of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
The renaming is part of a corporate restructuring that Renault CEO Luca de Meo is undertaking. Alpine is a French sports car brand that has been part of Renault since the 1970s. Former Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul will also be responsible for the Alpine brand in the future.
The new Formula 1 car will be painted in the colors of the French tricolor red, white and blue. It is currently in black and yellow. From 2021, Fernando Alonso from Spain and Frenchman Esteban Ocon will drive for the team.
