Rasenballsport Leipzig suffered a bitter defeat in the group stage of the Champions League on match day two. At Manchester United, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team lost 5-0. The Saxons were the better team at times, but were horribly countered several times in the final phase.

At the same time, BVB celebrated a close victory against Zenit St. Petersburg. Everything about the first three in the current Champions League season for Dortmund can be found here.

That’s how the Leipzig game went

Mason Greenwood (21st minute), the youngest player on the field at the age of 19, shot the “Red Devils” in front of the ghostly crowd at Old Trafford for Rashford with a three-pack (73./78./90.+2 ) and Anthony Martial with a penalty (87.) made the first home win of the season perfect. Before that, there was a 1: 3 against Crystal Palace in the Premiere League, a 1: 6 crash against Tottenham Hotspur and a 0: 0 against Chelsea.

Nagelsmann initially left Marcel Sabitzer and Tyler Adams, who were a little ill recently, on the couch. In the back three of the central defense, Frenchman Ibrahima Konaté was preferred over Willi Orban. Man United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer surprised with Donny van de Beek in midfield and surprisingly left Rashford and Fernandes in the starting line-up. For this, he bet on Greenwood, which immediately paid off.

RB did his best, but without success

The striker ran away from Dayot Upamecano on the left half after a pass from Pogba in a suspicious position and pushed RB goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi for the lead (21st). Despite a cross-check by the video referee, the hit was not withdrawn. It was a wake-up call for the Saxons: first Christopher Nkunku (21st) tested United goalkeeper David de Gea, then Kevin Kampl (24th) got stuck with his shot in the defense. RB tried hard, but couldn’t playfully highlight running hosts.

After the substitution, RB increased the pace, played the balls more directly and therefore had more freedom in substitution situations. Usually, however, it was the end of the line at the penalty area. Man United remained very present in the duels and played more precisely in the offensive. After more than an hour, Nagelsmann first brought captain Sabitzer, then the Norwegian Alexander Soerloth – Solskjaer parallel to Rashford.

The equalizer for RB prevented de Gea in the 65th minute with a brilliant save after a header from Konaté from close range. On the other hand, Gulacsi (71st) was perfect after a set piece against Anthony Martial who jumped in. Then the show started by the substitute Rashford, who ran ice cold three times.
