Leipzig (AP) – Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has signed Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian international comes over from sister club Red Bull Salzburg and will move to Saxony on January 1.
According to media reports, the transfer fee is 20 million euros. The midfielder signed a contract until 2025 and is already the 18th professional to move directly from Salzburg to Leipzig. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Arsenal FC were interested in the 20-year-old.
“We are pleased that we have been able to sign Dominik Szoboszlai and that he will join us in January. We have had very good conversations with Dominik and his advisor from the start and of course we are proud that he has chosen RB Leipzig – because he there were also several offers from top European clubs, ”said RB sports director Markus Krösche, emphasizing that the newcomer was eligible to play against Borussia Dortmund on January 9.
Szoboszlai was discovered by the current Leipzig scouting boss Christopher Vivell and included in the Salzburg youth team in 2017. The twelve-time national player moved to the Salzburg Bundesliga team via the Liefering farm team in the winter of 2018. In the current season, he has scored four goals in eleven league games and prepared seven goals. Szoboszlai scored twice in six group matches in the Champions League, but relegated with Salzburg to the Europa League.
