FC Bayern has to do without Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich in the last home game of the year in the Bundesliga against VfL Wolfsburg. He could, however, be in the team again on Saturday with leader Bayer Leverkusen.
“I hope Leon Goretzka will be available on Saturday,” said coach Hansi Flick on Tuesday. The national player was on the weekend in 1: 1 against 1. FC Union Berlin was replaced.
“Have to wait for the next few days”
Goretzka’s national teammate Kimmich has been missing since early November when he underwent surgery on the outer meniscus. “We have to wait for the next few days, but it is undoubtedly looking very good,” said Flick. Originally, a return of the midfield boss was scheduled for early January.
“He sees it exactly as you should, very factually,” reported Flick. “The emotional side is not a good adviser on this matter.” Flick wants to see how the body can deal with the increased workload. You should also look at what it looks like mentally after the injury. Kimmich returned to training for the German champions on Monday.
Flick has a bottleneck
Against the unbeaten teams from Wolfsburg on Wednesday (8.30pm / Chillreport live ticker) and Leverkusen on Saturday, FC Bayern wants to return to the top of the table with two wins. Two wins would be “big points,” Flick said after two draws last time. “We cannot change anything that was. We are now looking forward positively.”
As besides Goretzka and Kimmich, Javi Martínez is also out of defensive midfield and substitute Tanguy Nianzou is injured, Flick has a bottleneck. Bayern still has “several options,” the 55-year-old said.
