Paris (AP) – There is still heavy speculation about Thomas Tuchel’s future at Paris Saint-Germain following the end of his contract in the summer of 2021.
The French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” wrote that the 47-year-old German did not want to renew his contract and wanted to leave the club. The reason is the power struggle with sports director Leonardo. The 51-year-old Brazilian recently responded sharply to Tuchel’s request for reinforcement for the Champions League finalists last season.
However, according to the “L’Équipe” report, things could turn out differently. Such background noise should not please the very wealthy PSG owners from Qatar. “If it continues like this, they will say goodbye to one of them,” said an unnamed confidant. Reportedly, club bosses should not be happy with Leonardo’s purchasing policy either.
After the lost Champions League final against Bayern Munich, Tuchel warned that the team needed to be strengthened. The former Dortmund and Mainz Bundesliga coach recently renewed this requirement. Leonardo had, among other things, a loss of approximately 100 million euros for PSG due to the Corona crisis. He also said, “To stay with this club, you have to be content with the desire to suffer for the club, to sacrifice yourself, even when we are going through a difficult time.” Tuchel has been training the team since July 2018 with Brazilian superstar Neymar and French world champion Kylian Mbappé.
