Ligue 1: false start to the season for PSG and Tuchel

Lens (AP) – Without the two superstars Kylian Mbappé and Neymar and Julian Draxler, Paris Saint-Germain made a false start in the French football championship.

Two and a half weeks after the lost Champions League final against FC Bayern, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team lost 1-0 (0-0) to RC Lens in their first league match. After a bad pass from goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, Ignatius Ganago scored the decisive goal for the underdog in the 57th minute.

The German international Draxler was not part of the PSG selection for a short time. The Parisians initially gave no explanation for his absence through official channels during the match. The 26-year-old was recently linked by the newspaper “L’Équipe” with a possible transfer to Arsenal. Draxler was not averse to moving to London, the newspaper reported. However, he wants to end his contract in Paris, which runs until 2021.

Tuchel also had to do without many permanent employees. According to the French federation, world champion Mbappé was last infected with the corona virus. The PSG team also had other unnamed players who tested positive. Neymar, Mauro Icardi and Ángel Di María were missing from the regulars against Lens. All in all, the main club, where defender Thilo Kehrer was on the field from the start, showed a poor performance. Some spectators were allowed to attend the match.

France’s Ligue 1 had already started the season on August 21, PSG joined later on reaching the premier league final. The previous season was canceled in France due to the pandemic of the corona virus.
