London (AP) – England football champions FC Liverpool missed the opportunity to oust competitor Tottenham Hotspur from the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool came in at table 17. Fulham FC no more than 1-1 (0-1) and remains second. The Reds are level with the leaders in points, but have a worse goal difference than Tottenham. The Spurs also dropped points at 1: 1 (1: 0) at Crystal Palace. Liverpool and Tottenham will meet in a direct game on Wednesday.

Mohamed Salah (79th minute) gave the Reds in London at least one point with a converted hand penalty. Bobby De Cordova-Reid (25th) had given the strong climber the lead in front of nearly 2,000 fans at the Craven Cottage stadium. Especially in the first half, Fulham had good chances. Liverpool struggled with the hosts’ fast-paced duel, who only won two games. In the end, the result matched the performance.

The Spurs, unbeaten in eleven games, took the lead with a goal from Harry Kane (23rd), but gave up the late equalizer to Jeffrey Schlupp (81st). Tottenham got another chance to score the winner in the closing stages, but failed several times against quick-reacting Palace keeper Vicente Guaita, who shone with a few saves.

In the Champions League, Chelsea were the first in the group to reach the knockout stage and in the league they lost after nine unbeaten league games. The team of the German national players Timo Werner and Kai Havertz lost 0-1 to FC Everton (0-1). Former Hoffenheim player Gylfi Sigurdsson (22nd / foul penalty) scored the winning goal for Everton in front of 2000 spectators at Goodison Park.

Chelsea was overtaken by Southampton FC after the shock. Coach Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Saints are moving up the table after a sovereign 3-0 win against Sheffield United.

Record champions Manchester United and local rival Manchester City have nothing to do with the top group for the time being. The two teams, which are still behind expectations this season, competed against a goalless and quiet derby on Saturday. Man United is eighth in the table after 0-0, City ninth. Starcoach Pep Guardiola’s team won only five of the eleven matches.
