The “Reds” win at Chelsea with a strong performance. The hosts weaken themselves early on – a Liverpool star becomes a match winner. Thiago is also used.
Clear signal from Liverpool FC. The reigning England champions clearly won the Premier League top match at Chelsea FC 2-0 (0-0), celebrating their second win in their second game of the season. With his brace (50th, 54th) Sadio Mané became the match winner for dominant “Reds”, in which Bayern departure Thiago also made his debut. Chelsea, on the other hand, only woke up in the closing stages of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner’s home debut – and had weakened itself early on when Andreas Christensen (45) was sent off.
Liverpool largely determined the game in London. Chelsea came up with dangerous counterattacks, but lost defender Christensen just before half time. The Dane got the red card for an emergency brake against Mané. It only worked for a bit after that – and “Blues” goalkeeper Kepa made a serious mistake for the 2-0 defeat when he hit the ball right in front of Mané’s feet. Fifteen minutes before the end, Liverpool newcomer Thiago committed a foul on Chelsea attacker Werner. But Jorginho failed with the penalty (75th) from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
London newcomers Werner and Havertz are waiting for their first goals for the Blues. The German defender Antonio Rüdiger was surprisingly not with Chelsea. Coach Frank Lampard had already left the central defender on the bench on Monday in the 3-1 (1-0) away of the Blues against Brighton & Hove Albion.
