Mainz (dpa) – The Mainz sports director Rouven Schröder sees a lot of potential for more equality between the clubs in the decided distribution of television money in the Bundesliga.
“It was a fine adjustment in the right direction, but far from satisfactory,” Schröder said on Sky TV before the match between FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Köln. It is important that there is “more equality” between the clubs, Schröder demanded.
“There are still too big differences in the distribution. It is clear that in general we want to take advantage to make the competition even more exciting,” said the Mainz sports director, complaining that the Bundesliga is too scattered. “I really believe that you can change things with a financial effort.”
The German football league decided at the beginning of last week to distribute the TV money more evenly among the 36 Bundesliga and 2nd division clubs. The basis for the distribution from the marketing of national media rights in the seasons 2021/22 to 2024/25 is a new four-pillar model.
