Copenhagen (AP) – The ailing South African cycling team NTT and Danish manager Bjarne Riis are already breaking up after a year.
The winner of the Tour de France 1996 will resign from his position as team manager after the 2020 season, NTT announced. Further discussions about the acquisition of shares in the racing team by Riis and his partners are also off the table.
Riis, who won the Tour for Team Telekom in 1996 and later confessed to doping, joined NTT Pro Cycling earlier this year. The African continent’s only World Tour team is currently fighting for its future after NTT announced in early October that it would no longer be the team’s name sponsor in 2021.
