A day after his contract termination with Werder Bremen, professional football player Martin Harnik moved to fifth-class amateur club TuS Dassendorf in the Hamburg Oberliga. “We cannot put into words how proud we are,” said Dassendorf’s sporting director Jan Schönteich de “Hamburger Abendblatt”. Martin Harnik is from Hamburg and would like to live in his home country after his career has ended.
Harnik’s contract was terminated at Werder Bremen on Sunday. “We had very sensible talks with Martin and were now able to find a good and sensible solution”, Werder sports director Frank Baumann quotes in a club announcement. The former Austrian national player’s original contract was previously dated June 30, 2021.
Harnik returned to Bremen in the summer of 2018 after his first stay at Werder (2007 to 2009), but was unable to convince. Last season, the 33-year-old was awarded to Hamburger SV and played no role in the new season for trainer Florian Kohfeldt. For the Hanseatic League he made a total of 47 competitive appearances and eight goals.
