Matchday 11

Berlin (AP) – Borussia Dortmund has experienced a home debacle against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and is in danger of losing contact with the top of the table.

BVB lost to VfB 1: 5 (1: 1) and is already five points behind RB Leipzig after three series of games without a win. The Saxons won 2-0 (2-0) against Werder Bremen and initially took over at least first place from FC Bayern Munich, which had to play at 1. FC Union Berlin that evening.

Borussia Mönchengladbach missed on the eleventh matchday to get closer to the top group. The Gladbach team separated from Hertha BSC 1: 1 (0: 0) and remained seventh. In the basement of the table, 1. FC Köln scored 1: 0 (0: 0) at FSV Mainz 05 and SC Freiburg, who beat Arminia Bielefeld 2: 0 (0: 0), important victories.

After a weak initial phase, BVB fell behind with a penalty kick from Silas Wamangituka (27th minute). Giovanni Reyna scored 1: 1 (39th), before Wamangituka (53rd), Philipp Förster (60th), Tanguy Coulibaly (63rd) and Nicolas Gonzalez (90th + 1) punished the Borussia’s defensive sloppiness. Without the injured Erling Haaland, the Revierclub was much too harmless offensively and thus only got one point from the last three Bundesliga matches.

Leipzig also took the lead against Bremen by a penalty kick. Marcel Sabitzer brought about a conversion (26th), Dani Olmo added before half time (41st) for the hosts. The Saxons have been unbeaten in the league since the end of October. Bremen, on the other hand, suffered their third loss in a row and is in danger of slipping into the table.

The Gladbach team rotated to six positions three days after reaching the last sixteen of the Champions League and got no further than a draw at home against Hertha. Newcomer Matteo Guendouzi from Berlin put the guests ahead with his first Bundesliga goal (47th), Breel Embolo equalized (70th).

Mainz remained in the relegation zone 17th and promoted Bielefeld 16th after their defeats in dire need. Elvis Rexhbecaj decided the game in Mainz in favor of Cologne (55th). Vincenzo Grifo (79th / foul penalty) and Wooyeong Jeong (90th + 2) met in Freiburg.
