Matchday 12

Berlin (dpa) – Borussia Dortmund has got off to a good start with new coach Edin Terzic.

Marco Rose, reportedly courted by BVB for the coming season, had much more trouble with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday-evening. But at least goals were scored in Frankfurt.

GOAL: After turbulent days, Borussia Dortmund is calm again, at least in terms of the result. The 2: 1 (1: 1) under new coach Edin Terzic at Werder Bremen was the first win after three league games without three points, including the 1: 5 against VfB Stuttgart. “I thought it was very good and I am proud that we gave everything from start to finish,” said Terzic, who succeeded Lucien Favre. “In terms of game it was not what we would like to see until the end. But much more important is that we showed a reaction.” However, in his very first game, the coach helped young star Youssoufa Moukoko make his starting debut.

COMPENSATION: For a long, very long time Eintracht Frankfurt looked like the sure winner against Borussia Mönchengladbach. After all, it was 3-1 for Hessen until shortly before the end of regular time. But then Lars Stindl came by. The Borussia captain made his three-pack perfect with two goals within five minutes. “Everything is possible in football and it is important to always believe in it until the final whistle,” said coach Marco Rose after the 3: 3 (1: 3). He weakened rumors about a move to Dortmund for the new season: “We are concentrating on our tasks. That’s why I don’t trade with them.”

ZERO NUMBER: There wasn’t much to see in Berlin. For the first time since November 2015, a game in the Bundesliga took place without a single shot at any of the goals. Hertha BSC’s 0-0 draw against FSV Mainz 05 is more of a help to Rheinhessen, who could still be the last in a Schalke victory on Wednesday. FSV professional Kevin Stöger spoke of an “intense fighting game”. Not one that brought a lot of fun to the public. Just like five years ago with Hertha, which won 1-0 against TSG Hoffenheim thanks to an own goal by Eugen Polanski.

HOME WEAKNESS: Not again. Newcomers VfB Stuttgart have to wait for the first home win of the season. The 2: 2 (0: 1) against 1. FC Union Berlin was also fair – especially since in the course of the match no VfB fan should complain about the lack of a victory. After all, Sasa Kalajdzic secured the draw with two late goals.

TOP RIDER: The battle for the top is divided into three parts in the second part of the 12th game day. Bayer Leverkusen is on pole position, the leader of the table is ahead of the Rhine derby on Wednesday evening at 1 p.m. FC Köln one point ahead of the champions FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. Bayern welcomes the still unbeaten VfL Wolfsburg, the Leipzigers are guests at TSG Hoffenheim (all matches at 8.30 pm / Sky). “It’s great that we’re up there because it’s hard to get there, but even harder to stay up there,” said Bayer coach Peter Bosz.

TASMANIA: The negative record of Tasmania Berlin in the 1965/66 season with 31 games without a win is getting closer and closer for FC Schalke 04. The Revierclub has 27 games. In the home games, first Wednesday (6.30pm / Sky) against Freiburg and then Saturday against Bielefeld, there are two more chances to end the curse. Coach Manuel Baum made a Christmas promise to the fans: “We will certainly not give up, but will put everything we have into the next two games, so that we can at least put the first three under the Christmas tree.”
