Berlin (dpa) – Will FC Bayern go it alone? The three-time winner cemented his supremacy with a 3-2 victory in the German classic at Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern leads the table again with 18 points. National player Joshua Kimmich’s injury is a cause for concern.
PENALTY REST: After two penalties against his team, Schalke’s sports director Jochen Schneider was angry with the referee team. “I feel badly treated. It will be enough at some point,” Schneider told Sky TV after the 2-2 draw at the bottom of the table. Jean-Philippe Mateta was not pulled back by the video referee, Schneider could not understand. “I don’t know what’s going on in Cologne. It will be checked and it is a penalty. I expect more attention in Cologne.” So Schalke’s negative streak continued, the Royal Blues already had 23 games without a win.
STRAIN RECORD: Ex-national player Max Kruse is currently in excellent shape and has also set a record. The 32-year-old newcomer to 1. FC Union Berlin also turned his 16th Bundesliga penalty into a 5-0 win against Arminia Bielefeld – no misses. He came on a level with Jochen Abel, who had scored sixteen penalties in the Bundesliga for VfL Bochum and FC Schalke 04 in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
BIRTHDAY: Bruno Labbadia had to wait seven weeks for his 100th victory as national coach of the Bundesliga, which eventually succeeded in a sovereign 3-0 victory at Hertha BSC in Augsburg. Much more important to the coach, however, was that the win brought a bit of calm after the Berliners, who were seasoned by millions, were last without a win five times in a row. After all, the people in Berlin and at investor Lars Windhorst are now dreaming big.
PERSONS DUAL: Leverkusen against Gladbach – that was a duel for fourth place in the Champions League for the past two seasons. In 2019 Leverkusen pushed Gladbach from fourth place and in the last sprint of the Champions League season, in 2020 it was the other way around. At the moment it is getting tight again for the meeting on Sunday (6 pm). Leverkusen has twelve points, Gladbach has eleven points. Before that, VfL Wolfsburg and 1899 Hoffenheim meet at 3.30 pm. Wolfsburg is still unbeaten but has drawn five times.
INJURY: The photos do not suggest anything good. Joshua Kimmich extends his knee too far in a tackle against Erling Haaland. The team doctors quickly give the signal for a change. “He is one of our most important players in this role,” emphasizes coach Hansi Flick: “Failure would not be so easy for us to deal with.” Kimmich should start the journey home to Munich with the team. “I hope for Josh, for Bayern, for the DFB that he comes out of the track reasonably fit. He’s a footballer and a great guy,” said former Bayern pro Mats Hummels.
