Matchday 7

Leverkusen (AP) – Leon Bailey and Julian Baumgartlinger have led Bayer Leverkusen back to the Champions League.

The two Bayer football professionals have secured their team their fourth straight Bundesliga victory with the goals for a spectacular 4: 3 (2: 2) win against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the closing stages.

Earlier, Lucas Alario (27/41 minutes) scored the goals for the hosts in an exciting duel with his third brace in a row. Lars Stindl (18./Foulelfmeter/30.) And Joker Valentino Lazaro with a spectacular heel goal (90. + 4) scored for Gladbach, who was previously unbeaten in eight games, who after the successes in the top matches against RB Leipzig (1- 0) and in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk (6-0) now fell to seventh place.

Bayer goalscorer Baumgartlinger was still “somewhat exhausted” after the intense game, but very happy. “That was an extreme race, the Gladbach team demanded everything from us, but we balanced everything today and performed well,” said the Austrian in an interview with Sky. “We’ve always believed in ourselves.” His countryman Lazaro was not at all satisfied with his goal of the month. “We weren’t the best team today, but we still had chances. It’s a bitter moment,” said the Gladbach professional. And goalkeeper Yann Sommer said: “There were too many mistakes today.”

In the 77th game between the two teams, which have finished fourth in the Champions League in the past two years, Bayer coach Peter Bosz managed to rotate to five positions after the Europa League game in Israel. New addition Patrik Schick was not yet in the selection after his fiber tear.

The host’s line of attack with striker Lucas Alario in the center started quickly, even without Schick. Leon Bailey, who repeatedly created danger on the right, got the first chance after 73 seconds, but shot just wide of the goal. The Gladbacher’s line of defense was busy.

In the match, which was played intensively by both teams in the BayArena, the guests in mint-colored jerseys initially did without the triple goalscorer Alassane Plea, but otherwise had the strongest team at the start. And after the first striking attack via Jonas Hofmann, it also took the lead. Plea representative Breel Embolo was fouled by Bayer goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, the penalty kick was converted to 1-0 by captain Stindl.

In the entertaining and worth seeing game, Bayer stayed on the tractor and got through a nice flick from Alario to the 1: 1 level. The joy did not last long, Stindl scored barely three minutes later to make it 2-1 from a suspicious position, but the ball came from an opponent. Shortly after, Ramy Bensebaini only hit the aluminum of the Bayer suitcase (35th). Alario (41st) equalized with a header before half time. The Argentinian has scored seven goals in the last four Bundesliga games, scoring his third straight brace.

After the fight with an open visor, the Gladbachers in particular limited their attack efforts a bit and looked for stability in a safe order. The hosts sought their chance to win and found it in Bailey, who initially missed a good chance and then, after a fine pass from Diaby Gladbach’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer, thrust the ball through his legs and scored the 3-2 (68th), before Baumgartlinger for 4: 2 (82nd).
