Leverkusen (AP) – Bundesliga football team Bayer Leverkusen is facing the stake of Colombian national player Santiago Arias, according to media reports.
According to “Bild” and “Kicker”, the 28-year-old right-back of Atlético Madrid could initially move to the Rhineland on loan with a purchase option of ten to twelve million euros.
Arias still has a contract in Madrid until 2023, but is only second choice at Atlético behind England international Kieran Trippier. In 50 competitive games he was only used 18 times in the preseason, but usually 90 minutes such as the 1: 2 in the Champions League preliminary round in Leverkusen.
Bayer nominally has two right backs. But captain Lars Bender has been eliminated due to injuries in the recent past. And those responsible apparently no longer have faith in Mitchell Weiser. In the cup, the former Bayern pro was preferred over central defender Aleksandar Dragovic after Bender’s replacement, but Weiser was not in the squad when the league opened 0-0 in Wolfsburg.
