During the third practice at Silverstone, Mercedes once again set the benchmark for all things. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel again had problems with his racing car and did not even come within striking distance.
In the third free practice of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Mercedes made serious work for the first time and distanced himself from the competition with Valtteri Bottas (Finland) and world champion Lewis Hamilton (England). On the other hand, Sebastian Vettel (Heppenheim) in the bucking Ferrari did not even reach the hitting distance in the final test before qualifying (3:00 pm /, in the live ticker at Chillreport). In 14th place he was more than a second and a half behind Bottas’ best time.
Hülkenberg in the top 10
Returnee Nico Hülkenberg (Emmerich) did better. Hulkenberg drove Friday at Racing Point for Mexican Sergio Perez, who tested positive for Corona, the ninth best time, but was still three tenths behind his teammate Lance Stroll (Canada).
Temperatures around 17 degrees, a cloudy sky and treacherous crosswind along the route made for a very different scenario than during the heat fight on Friday. Sebastian Vettel was unable to deal with the changed external circumstances on Saturday. He left the race line several times, struggled with the wind and finished sixth more than half a second slower than his teammate Charles Leclerc (Monaco).
