Barcelona (AP) – World football player Lionel Messi and ex-Bayern professional Philippe Coutinho shot FC Barcelona to their second victory in the second test game of the season preparation.
Messi scored twice in the 3-1 win against Girona after Coutinho gave the Catalans the lead on an assist from Messi. It was Messi’s first goal for Barcelona since the last exchange theater. Most recently, the Argentinian had already led his team onto the field as captain in the 3-1 victory over Gimnàstic Tarragona in the first test match. The new Dutch coach Ronald Koeman again gave up former Bundesliga pro Arturo Vidal and Luis Suárez. Both are likely to leave the club.
Koeman had taken over from Quique Setien, of whom the Catalans said goodbye after the disastrous 8-2 defeat against FC Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. FC Barcelona starts the new season with a home game against Villarreal on September 27.
