The dream of Formula 1 is getting closer and closer for Mick Schumacher: the son of motorsport legend Michael Schumacher will regularly sit in a top race car for the first time at the Grand Prix of the Eifel.
Mick Schumacher takes the next step towards a Formula 1 cockpit. The 21-year-old Formula 2 leader will be behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo during the Grand Prix weekend in a week and a half during the first free practice at the Nürburgring. The race team and the Ferrari drivers academy, to which Mick Schumacher belongs, announced this on Tuesday.
He takes over the car from Alfa regular driver Antonio Giovinazzi. “I am delighted to have this opportunity in free practice,” said Schumacher. The fact that he can ride in front of a home crowd makes it even more special.
The son of Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher is considered a contender for a cockpit at Alfa from next season. The team works closely with Ferrari.
