American pharmaceutical company Moderna says it has begun testing the coronovirus vaccine on children and adolescents in the final stages of testing. In this phase of testing, 12 to 18 year olds are being given vaccines. British news agency Reuters reported.
An advisory panel will meet on Thursday to discuss Pfizer’s approval of the vaccine. It will discuss whether the Pfizer vaccine will be given to people 18 and older. A similar meeting will be held on 16 December on modern commentary. Modern rival Pfizer is testing the vaccine on children up to the age of 12.
The vaccine trial is being conducted in coordination with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Reuters.
Stephen Bansal, CEO of Modern said, “Our goal in the MRNA-1273 vaccine trial on children and adolescents is to achieve results in the spring of 2021.” We would like to receive information before the start of the 2021 academic year.
The news of vaccine testing on children and adolescents comes at a time when the United States is preparing to apply the vaccine invented by Modern and Pfizer-Bioentech to adults with the permission of the drug regulatory body.
