Motorcycle supplier Honda has been active in Formula 1 again since 2015. From 2022, the racing teams Red Bull and Alpha Tauri will need a new partner. The Japanese want to focus on a different goal.
Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of 2021. Red Bull and Alpha Tauri will have to look for a new engine manufacturer before 2022. The Japanese group justified its withdrawal in Tokyo on Friday with the “great transformation” the auto industry is currently facing.
Honda’s goal is to be climate neutral by the end of 2050. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner confirmed that they wanted to remain in Formula 1 for the long term. Honda returned to the motorsport premier class in 2015, initially supplying engines to its old partner McLaren.
