Berlin (AP) – Youssoufa Moukoko is the youngest player in Bundesliga history. A day after his 16th birthday, the striker, known as a child prodigy, came on Saturday night as a substitute for Borussia Dortmund at Hertha BSC.

In the 85th minute he arrived on the lawn of the Olympic Stadium in Berlin with a score of 5: 2. With this Moukoko replaces another Dortmund player in the youth rankings. Nuri Sahin was the youngest Bundesliga professional so far with his debut at the age of eleven months and one day.

Moukoko has been causing a stir in the junior area for several years now. Well-developed for his age, the forward appeared to have recently been challenged in the Junior Bundesliga. In 73 top matches in the U17 and U19 he scored no fewer than 127 times. Even for national coach Joachim Löw, the German-Cameroonian is “a grenade”. The teenager is considered the great promise of German football.

As a gift, coach Lucien Favre did not want to understand the mission. ‘It was his birthday yesterday. He has received a present, ‘he said before kick-off. Moukoko himself looked relaxed. He was smiling on the sofa.

Even before his first Bundesliga trip to the capital, he tried to hide the hustle and bustle from himself. ‘I read what the media write. But I am not putting pressure on myself. ‘ Moukokos’ early promotion from junior to professional seemed too late. Since moving from FC St. Pauli to BVB at the age of eleven, he has skipped entire years several times. A deployment in the A team was only possible after the age limit of the German football league was lowered to 16 years.

BVB sports director Michael Zorc warned against too high expectations. “We have experienced it as very refreshing since the summer. Still, I will admit that what is happening in the media is going a little too far for me,” he said. ‘I do not like that. We all need to calm down and let things develop, ”said Zorc. Nonetheless, Borussia had repeatedly documented Moukoko’s rise on his social media channels.
