Zurich (dpa) – From the point of view of Manuel Neuer and Joachim Löw, there was no way to get around Robert Lewandowski in the choice of the FIFA world footballer. The captain and coach of the German national team placed the winner of FC Bayern Munich in first place in their vote.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and his ex-teammate Thiago took next place, while Löw also voted for Kylian Mbappé and Sergio Ramos.
This was evident from the voting lists that the world association published to music after the freestyle. In addition to journalists and fans, the captains and coaches of the national teams of all associations affiliated to FIFA had equal voting rights.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished second behind Lewandowski, also gave the Poles his full points as the leader of Portugal. The third-placed Argentinian Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona, however, put the Parisian professionals Neymar and Mbappé ahead of Lewandowski.
Overall, it was a sovereign victory for Munich’s three-time winner. He got the most points from coaches, captains, media and fans.
