Leipzig (AP) – After Joshua Kimmich’s knee injury and Marcel Halstenberg’s failure, national coach Joachim Löw has not yet nominated a player for the national football team’s annual results.
As reported from DFB circles on Sunday, the national coach may only decide on the new personnel situation on Monday. A diagnosis of the seriousness of Bayern pro Kimmich’s injury from the top match at Borussia Dortmund was still under consideration.
Halstenberg from Leipzig had canceled after his recurring adductor problems on Saturday for the DFB games in his hometown on Wednesday against the Czech Republic and on Saturday against Ukraine and again three days later in Spain. It was still unclear whether Thilo Kehrer Löw, who was injured at Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, will be available.
Without Kimmich and Halstenberg, Löw still has 27 players in his extra-large squad. Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, Timo Werner, Toni Kroos and Matthias Ginter are only expected in Leipzig on Thursday to prepare for the Nations League matches. Without a subsequent nomination, Löw would have 17 field players and three goalkeepers available for the game in the Czech Republic.
Defender Antonio Rüdiger does not have to fear DFB consequences after his controversial Instagram as for former martial arts superstar Chabib Nurmagomedow. “He has admitted his mistake and has since publicly apologized and clearly distanced himself from the content of the original post,” said DFB director Oliver Bierhoff of “Bild am Sonntag”.
32-year-old Nurmagomedov had spoken in Cyrillic in connection with the controversy over the Mohammed cartoons and insulted French President Emanuel Macron. “That was a mistake. Articles written in languages that you don’t understand at all should of course not be appreciated. I reject any form of violence and therefore want to clearly distance myself from this content,” said Rüdiger.
