An experienced skier causes an avalanche on a steep slope at Stuben am Arlberg and is buried. The search for the victim begins immediately, but is initially unsuccessful.
An experienced ski tourer was killed in an avalanche accident in Austria. The 61-year-old started his journey towards the Albonagrat alone from Stuben am Arlberg. While descending the “Albona North Face” slope, he released a slab of snow on a steep slope that carried him 400 meters and buried him, as police in Vorarlberg announced on Tuesday.
According to police, two snowboarders, who were also on the ski tour, searched the avalanche cone with their search equipment, but found no one.
The alerted mountain rescue team was on duty with 56 rescue workers and six avalanche dogs. The avalanche dog “Buddy” has finally found the victim. After several hours under three meters of snow, the 61-year-old could not be found dead until Monday.
