Mesut Özil has received the next low blow at Arsenal FC. The former German national footballer was not considered for the English club’s Premier League squad by team manager Mikel Arteta, so a league game has been ruled out this year.
Rio world champion Ozil, who last played for the Gunners on March 7, was recently not nominated for the Europa League. The big earner, £ 350,000 a week, is only allowed to play in the U23 for now.
The 32-year-old was only able to promote again in January, when Arteta reconstitutes the team for the competition and the European Cup. This also applies to the former Dortmund-based Sokratis, who was also eliminated in both competitions. Ozil’s contract expires after eight years in London at the end of the season.
