Police of Pakistan demonstrated on French Dutabasagami of tear gas. Rally in Islamabad on Friday, the police released tear gas to disperse the protesters after breaking the barricade. The procession was organized to protest the publication of cartoons of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
No casualties were reported. The protesters later rallied on the site.
A teacher was recently murdered in France to show a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) during a class on freedom of expression. The incident caused anger throughout France. The French president took a tough stance in favor of maintaining the country’s secular values contrary to “radical Islam”. “France will not stop showing caricatures,” he said. Protest and resentment are being expressed in the Muslim world against his statement.
According to eyewitnesses, around 3,000 protesters gathered in Islamabad. He held the position in the protected diplomatic area, about half a kilometer from the French Embassy. The road leading to the embassy was blocked by police barricades. Shipping containers, riot police smashed protesters through barbed wire. The police released tear gas to chase them away.
Police officer Amanullah Niazi said, “We need to throw tear gas when the protesters break their conditions and become violent.”
Protests have also taken place in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar, Pakistan.
