Madrid (dpa) – With Toni Kroos as the goalscorer, the Spanish record champion footballer Real Madrid celebrated a mediocre 3-1 (1-0) home win against Athletic Bilbao and overtook the leading duo of the Primera División on points.
The national player gave the royal team the lead on Tuesday evening in the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano just before the whistle of half time (45th + 1 minute). Torgarant Karim Benzema (74./90.+2) again took care of the redeeming hits. Bilbao had only recently dreamed of scoring points against the favorites after a 1-1 draw by Ander Capa (52nd).
Real played in the majority for 80 minutes because Raul Garcia (Bilbao) had to leave the field in the 13th minute with a yellow-red. Front runners Real Sociedad San Sebastian and Atlético Madrid also have 26 points, but Real’s fellow townsman Atlético has played two games less.
