Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – Julian Nagelsmann quickly swept away the anger over the expanded winless series at Eintracht Frankfurt. Now RB Leipzig’s next victory should be in Paris St. Germain.

“We want to win there and take a big step towards the knockout round”, the Leipzig coach announced after the 1-1 (0-1) on the Main and before the return leg in the Champions League on Tuesday (9 p.m.) . “The pressure is more on Paris.” Leipzig won the first leg against coach Thomas Tuchel’s star ensemble 2-1 and PSG lost 3-2 to AS Monaco on Friday.

The Saxons didn’t mess up their Bundesliga dress rehearsal that much, but the points distribution was tedious. With a win, RB could have tied in with market leader FC Bayern (19 points) after his slip-up in terms of points. Instead, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen (both 18) moved Leipzig (17) from second place. “We’re not one hundred percent satisfied with the point,” said RB forward Yussuf Poulsen. He equalized after Aymane Barkok’s 1-0 (43rd) in the 57th minute.

“This 1-1 draw on Tuesday has no effect on my emotions or those of the players. I didn’t think our game was too bad,” said Nagelsmann. He is more concerned about Parisian superstars Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, who were missing from the first leg. “We have to be fresh and vigilant, especially when Neymar and Mbappé play again,” said the coach.

The question of why Leipzig did not take advantage of Bayern’s slip is often asked of Munich’s competitors. “You don’t automatically get points because Bayern loses. We don’t play eleven against zero”, Nagelsmann replied. Not using Isar’s template didn’t irritate him too much: “If it had been the 33rd match day, it would have mattered a lot to me, not too much today.”

His goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi sees it the same way after the continuation of the negative streak with the Frankfurt, which was very deep and compact. “The season is still long and we still have some chances – we can make up for the two points lost at Bayern in two weeks,” said the Hungarian.

Nagelsmann has little hope that one of the many injured people, especially from the defense, can return to work before the match in Paris. “As for the rear, we’re going into the final groove,” said the coach after the next tough away game without a win. Leipzig previously lost to Manchester United (0: 5) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (0: 1).

As a precaution, the coach had his central defenders do job sharing in Frankfurt. Dayot Upamecano played the first half, then captain Willi Orban came. Both had complained of muscle problems. For Nordi Mukiele (fiber tear) and Marcel Halstenberg (adductor problems), an assignment on the Seine comes too early. “I usually don’t see that,” said Nagelsmann.
