Report: “Süddeutsche Zeitung”: FC Schalke introduces a maximum wage

Gelsenkirchen (dpa) – According to a media report, FC Schalke 04 is the first Bundesliga club to introduce a maximum wage.

At the Revierclub, the limit of an annual salary of 2.5 million euros may no longer be exceeded in the future, reports the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. Recently, several officials, including DFL chief Christian Seifert and DFB president Fritz Keller, have demanded a higher salary threshold in football, but its implementation is classified as difficult.

FC Schalke’s financial situation had recently deteriorated during the Corona crisis. “It’s about the existence of the club,” warned communications manager Alexander Jobst. The club had ended the Bundesliga season with 16 scoreless games in a row in 12th place in the table. According to the report, David Wagner should remain coach at Schalke for the coming season.
