After 26 years it is over for Kai Ebel at RTL. The broadcaster ” Chillreport” confirmed this Sunday a few minutes before the race in Portimao (from 2.10 pm, in the live ticker on Chillreport).
RTL has the rights until the end of the year
Ebel enjoys cult status among Formula 1 connoisseurs. For more than a quarter of a century he was a reporter on the world’s racetracks and interviewed the drivers, earning him the nickname “Mister Boxengasse”.
Ebel always attracted attention with his eccentric outfits and was a real eye-catcher for RTL viewers. It comes as a surprise that he is now doing his last assignment for the station.
RTL still has the rights to the Formula 1 broadcasts in Germany until the end of the year, from next season only the pay-TV broadcaster Sky will be active as a broadcaster. Individual races are shown on Sky Sport News’ own free TV broadcaster.
Due to the corona pandemic, RTL has not been on site with its team since the races resumed, but supervises the races from the studio in Cologne – with the exception of cult reporter Kai Ebel.
