Director Hans-Joachim Watzke of Borussia Dortmund has responded to Marco Reus’ criticism of former national player Dietmar Hamann. In his role as TV pundit for pay-TV broadcaster Sky, the 2005 Champions League winner said, “I couldn’t understand why they didn’t take his captaincy off his cap in the summer.”
Watzke now replied and stood demonstratively in front of Reus. “Dietmar Hamann often analyzes very carefully. But here he is completely wrong. How does he want to be able to assess the internal team processes? Marco is a good captain,” said 61-year-old de “Bild”.
Hamann calls for head of defense Mats Hummels instead of Reus as Dortmund captain. He states: “With Hummels you have a brilliant leader who has shown in the past that he can speak, that he can inspire people.” However, Watzke does not want this discussion to arise and is opposed to it. “Marco and Mats get along very well. It is clear that Marco needs time to stabilize his performance after this long injury. At least we know what we have about him,” said the BVB boss.
