After the death of an African American when he was arrested by the police in upstate New York, the chief of police of the city of Rochester has resigned. Previously there had been violent protests.
After outrage over the death of a black American as a result of a brutal police operation in Rochester, the American city police chief resigns. La’Ron Singletary will leave his post at the end of the month, Mayor Lovely Warren said at a news conference Tuesday (local time). There were also riots in Rochester over the weekend on the sidelines of protests against racism and police brutality.
Details of the March police operation were only revealed last week after the family of the deceased released images from police cameras. It shows how several police officers arrest a naked man on the street who is clearly under the influence of drugs. They put a hood of some kind on the 41-year-old to protect him from spitting and press his head on the asphalt. The man died in hospital a week later. Seven police officers were suspended after the video was released.
