Used to be Sergei Torop traffic cop. Today he calls himself Vissarion and claims to be the rebirth of Jesus. Now the cult leader has been arrested. The allegations against him weigh heavily.
Russian special forces have arrested a Siberian cult leader who claims to be a rebirth of Jesus. According to the prosecutor’s office, 59-year-old Sergei Torop aka Vissarion has been caught with two helpers in a remote settlement in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk. Investigators accuse the self-proclaimed Messiah of having financially excluded and mentally ill-treated followers.
Sect members died in settlements
Former traffic cop Torop said he was experiencing a “revival” after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In 1991 he founded a sect, the Church of the Last Testament.
She has thousands of followers who live in remote settlements in Siberia. In the 1990s, several cult members died as a result of suicide or as a result of the harsh living conditions and lack of medical care in their settlements.
